AISIX Solutions announces Cell2Fire2, an improvement on the Canadian fire growth model Cell2Fire

December 12th, 2024

Vancouver, British Columbia – December 12th, 2024 – AISIX Solutions Inc., (“AISIX” or “the Company”) (TSXV: AISX) (OTCQB: AISXF) (FSE: QT7), a leading climate analytics and data company, is proud to announce the release of Cell2Fire2, an expansion of the wildfire growth model Cell2Fire. Cell2Fire2 provides a computational improvement of simulation of large fires, aiding to the challenging task of modelling wildfire behaviour.

Cell2Fire2 builds on the extremely fast Cell2Fire, the fire growth model used by BurnP3+, the software trusted by the Canadian Forest Service to model wildland fire behaviour for planning and emergency management purposes. AISIX Solutions is proud to open-source release Cell2Fire2 to help the scientific community in the challenging task of modelling fire behaviour.

“Cell2Fire2 is a clever solution to the long-standing problem of fire spread over a regular grid; by randomizing the ignition point within the grid cells, fire spreads more realistically without losing computational efficiency” said Dr Gio Roberti, Head of Product at AISIX.

“We are excited to release our modified fire growth model to help the community with improving the tools to model wildfires and help Canadians became more resilient to fire risk” adds Mihalis Belantis, CEO of AISIX solutions.

Cell2Fire2 is available under open-source license: https://github.com/AISix-Solutions/Cell2Fire2

Figure 1 Test examples of fires simulated with Prometheus, the legacy, computational expensive, fire simulator software, Cell2Fire, the faster fire simulator software, and Cell2Fire2, the improved fire simulator software that does not lose in computational efficiency while creating more realistic fires. These tests are carried out using uniform weather conditions with varying wind direction on a flat C1 fuel grid.
